Furniture Friday...$5 Vintage Chair

I am in LOVE with my vintage chair.
I am LEARNING how to re-upholster...and I WILL get better!

Here is how I found this chair.

 photo 7f69f2c9-26fd-4599-bd2d-a632780550b0_zpsb15e3c49.jpg
A friend that I have painted some things for gave me a "heads up" about a garage clean out that was going on at her uncle's house.
I was on my way....

I bought this chair for $5.  Yep, you read that right...$5.
A little rough, mainly just dirty...but, I knew I could figure out how to re-upholster.

Without any real knowledge on what I was doing (nor did I have a plan) I tore the fabric off.
Dust flew out as I ripped the fabric off.  What had I done?
This may have been over my head...but, I wasn't giving up!

I am glad I kept at it...not bad for a ROOKIE!

 photo 71f89f33-30af-4895-9ba3-943156c0660e_zps2d2e0273.jpg

I painted the frame of the chair in what was left of my Annie Sloan Old White...

 photo e064019a-af67-4130-a9c1-8c4e283bdac4_zpsbdd2df7c.jpg

Covered the seats and back in a canvas drop cloth I washed and bleached...

I used a simple trim I found on Amazon in an ivory color...

 photo 75d4ce75-26d5-49bc-bcbb-0375cb3835d8_zpscaedcc75.jpg

Not at ALL perfect...but, I LOVE it!

 photo 382302f3-4a0b-490a-a47c-b2486659bef7_zps415d8c16.jpg
There is another chair waiting for me to work on...I know my next shot at it will be better!

Chair $5
Drop Cloth $20 (I used about $5 worth of that!)
Upholstery Cording $12...with some left for another chair!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend...and a Blessed Easter!

This Ol House Thursday...Room Redo (AGAIN) Part 2!

If you don't know by now...I like change.

I LOVE moving furniture around...it just makes me feel like I have a new room.

New layout = New room = Happy Wife
No $$ (or at least very little!) spent = Happy Husband

So, here is a little bit more of our master bedroom redo (AGAIN!)
If you are wondering why I say AGAIN...click HERE .

Here is what our bedroom looked like...oh, last Spring.  (Around April/May 2012)

Nothing really wrong with the room...just black and white, more white and black...and that was it.

Here is what the room looked like last August/September 2012...I got a wild cowgirl/gypsy vibe
and went with it.

Funkyroom1 photo Funkyroom1_zpsf6948c60.jpg

Yep...that was fun...but, I was ready to soften things up and make it somewhat
of romantic, airy and flowy (is that a word?) room.

So, off white tones danced in my head...isn't that what every mother of a 4 year old and 1 year old imagines first off?? Crazy...oh, well...it can be washed!

Okay...and now, it looks like this...
 photo 9ae0c378-bb5e-405d-b01a-7ed4b6b684b1_zps83127b70.jpg

This armoir of mine has been black, turquoise and now this creamy white.   photo 49cf9ea5-4fa9-4013-a8b1-e0cb4ede917a_zps326a7925.jpg

 photo a0c2b8d2-f27b-47cb-95b6-f10c5444f4f4_zps7f9e63df.jpg
I LOVE how the black and turquoise are peeking through the distressing.
See...it was all in my plan!  HA!

 photo 22f21145-b8e6-464a-af28-ab8f62e19f24_zps02cfa404.jpg
Remember last week when I said I was going to think about the color/fabric I would choose
for my pillow covers I was going to sew?  Um...yah right!
I grabbed some I already had sewn and used those.
Done!

 photo 0753f514-229a-46d0-a0e5-431f76d5249a_zps72fbf6e0.jpg
I didn't buy anything new for this room except or this gray-blue throw for our bed.
The girls and I were dinging around in Marshalls last Friday afternoon for $20...
and that darn throw jumped in our cart!

My sweet little chair is not quite done yet...still waiting on my upholstery cording to come in the mail.  As soon as ut is done...I will post pics.  Here is a rough picture of my $5 yard sale chair...

Photo: Not at ALL perfect...but not bad for my 1st full reupholstering/refurbish job! Waiting for the upholstery cord to get here and I will finish her off!
Don't look too closely...you will see the staples!  Almost done!
I just couldn't wait to share...better pictures coming.

Now, that I am somewhat done (not that much work at all to switch things up) my husband has decided it's time to tear the carpet out.  Yep, after almost 3 years of the tile sitting in our garage...we better remove the carpet from our room (carpet, in the dust bowl we live in is icky!) and get the tile in before he gets too busy this summer.
Really?
Okay...this means I get to go rug shopping!!!

Have a great rest of your week...I am completing furniture pieces everyday for our Fancy Flea Market!!
Click HERE for the details about our Flea Market...you won't want to miss it!

Dairy Wife Wednesday...PB & J Bars with a glass of MILK of course!

As the days are getting longer...the oats are getting closer to harvest.
(Closer to the beginning of the busiest time of year...around here, anyway!)

 photo 34a2936c-9878-4b0f-9be4-798821e9ffe6_zps923f52cc.jpg
My husband will harvest these fields of forage oats mid-April...and "ensilage" the oats.
The process of making silage includes first cutting/swathing the oat (any forage) chopping, piling and packing.

Here, you can see the piling and packing of the pit.

Then fermentation starts...and takes at least 21 days before it is ready to be fed to the cows.

Eat up, girls!!  Make that milk!

Speaking of milk...this treat will need a glass of milk for sure!

We haven't made these PB & J bars in a while...perfect treat!

 photo DSC_02971_zpsae663fc3.jpg

They are delicious...a little rich...of course you will need a glass of milk!
(You didn't think I was going to forget that, did you?)

This recipe comes from Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa.
Love her recipes...and cookbooks!

So...here is the recipe:

PB & J Bars

Ingredients
1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
2 cups (18 ounces) creamy or crunchy peanut butter ...your pick!
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 1/2 cups (18 ounces) strawberry jam or other jam (honestly, I didn't measure...just smeared it on!)
2/3 cups salted peanuts, coarsely chopped (I left these out...because the chunky PB was enough)

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease a 9 by 13 by 2-inch cake pan. Line it with parchment paper, then grease and flour the pan.

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar on medium speed until light yellow, about 2 minutes. With the mixer on low speed, add the vanilla, eggs, and peanut butter and mix until all ingredients are combined.

In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the flour mixture to the peanut butter mixture. Mix just until combined.

Spread 2/3 of the dough into the prepared cake pan and spread over the bottom with a knife or spatula.
(See the my helper's sweet little chubby hand...this is such a fun recipe for kids to help with!)

 photo 7c82ab95-d635-4603-9813-712c25f099f1_zps7a8d5124.jpg

Spread the jam evenly over the dough.

 photo 266baa7b-b6af-414d-9b3b-e2c6de6de67d_zpse6dcec7e.jpg

Drop small globs of the remaining dough evenly over the jam. Don't worry if all the jam isn't covered; it will spread in the oven.

 photo f85dad1b-419b-4e8e-916d-0300e13be984_zpsc6aefa97.jpg
Sprinkle with chopped peanuts and bake for 45 minutes, until golden brown.
My girls and I did not sprinkle with extra peanuts...our "Super Chunky" PB didn't lie.
There were PLENTY of peanuts in the peanut butter!

Cool and cut into squares.

Grab yourself a glass of milk...and sit down to a perfect after school snack
or an anytime treat!

Transformation Tuesday...13th Street Buffet

This one took a while to find.

 photo cc638ac3-280c-4950-9afc-5b7ba3ab7be9_zpsb68afb40.jpg

I snuck out of the house last Saturday morning...both girls still sleeping soundly in their beds and daddy was entering cow records on his laptop.  With coffee in hand (and a second cup in my travel mug) and some cash...I hit the road searchin' for finds.

I searched.
I searched some more.
I almost went home.

SO glad I made one last pass down the main street and made a right at 13th St.

Here is the before...
 photo 86125cf1-e399-42f2-bb84-2a18945b8233_zpsfa86fa8e.jpg

This buffet wasn't even visible...it was another cute little cabinet that caught my eye.  As I was talking to the gentlemen selling his stuff...he said I ay be interested in his girlfriend's buffet in the house.
Um...not sure I should go in...
(the chicken in me said "don't do it..."but the junker in me said "let's go!")

Thankful they showed me this in hopes of selling it to me.  Sold.
They emptied her contents right then and there.

I LOVE the stained top on this...the wood resembles a beautiful wide plank wood floor
(I want a floor like that some day!)

 photo fc68ffd7-eb59-4d78-978f-c04b74fb3a21_zps6d7aa6de.jpg

This piece definitely had a farmhouse feel to me...so, I painted it in an off white color
in my own home made chalk-like paint recipe you can be find HERE .

I gave her a good distressing...

It matches perfectly with this table I finished last week...but, it won't be going with the table.
This buffet sold within about an hour of me posting pictures of it on my Facebook Page .

This Ol' House Thursday...Room Redo (AGAIN!)

So you know I LOVE change.
Maybe too much change?  My husband LOVES it too...um...not so much!

I am working on our bedroom yet, once again.  It really wasn't terrible to start with...

(You can see where I started to paint the armoir turquoise and then realized I wanted a before shot.)

These pictures were taken...oh, I would say...last summer???  Maybe August of 2012??

Black and white...kind of done with that.

This paint job is what started the whole room mess makeover.
Our bedding didn't match (you know my husband pointed that out of course...kidding!)

Funkyroom1 photo Funkyroom1_zpsf6948c60.jpg

So, it evolved into this...my turquoise/cowgirl/hippie kind of room.

I picked out the darkest, deepest chocolate-y grey color for the walls, traded a friend a furniture piece I had for her Pottery Barn bedding (hardly used) and some yard sale finds.

You can read the whole post on my Mini Room Makeover on the Cheap HERE .

So...what am I up to now with this room...well, here is a little teaser

Photo

My armoir is now a creamy white (I really can't help myself with paint and a brush)...with the turquoise and black peeking through.

I LOVE it!

I need to FINISH it...today! (Hopefully)  I hope to have some after pictures for you next week.

The white bedding is in the washer...I am trying to figure out what color of pillow covers I want to sew to toss on our bed (my husband LOVES the millions of pillows on the bed..haha.)

I hope you have a great day...we are headed to Natalie's Preschool Easter Picnic...so sweet.

Don't forget about the Creative Linky Party going on right now co-hosted by Stacey of and me!! Here is the link for the post with the party...
