Transformation Tuesday...Another FUN Yard Sale Chair Redo!

This turned out to be such a fun little set...yard sale chair and the stool was a trade from a friend!

 photo 1b794112-cc77-4a83-a8a6-c1bd7c43a0c0_zps859cb4a1.jpg

Here is the funky retro orange velvet fabric...cute...but, not what I had in mind!

 photo 7963abe5-4a44-453a-ac11-cf3ae3cc0c30_zps3d992500.jpg

I gave the arms and legs a good coat of  my own  HOMEMADE CHALK-LIKE PAINT ...using an old
turquoise color I had around.  I love using what I have for quick projects...

This fabric is a chocolate brown damask print...I think it adds to the funky-ness of the chair!

Just a quick little transformation today...I have been super busy with back-to-back shows and I am trying
to recoup and gear up for Glorious Junk Days at the end of May in Clovis, CA.  FUN show!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week!

Motivate Me Monday...Flair on the Farm Show Recap

WOW...what a whirlwind of two weeks it has been!  I feel like it has been FOREVER since I actually sat down and wrote a post.

You remember a couple of weeks ago, my mom, sis and I hosted our Fancy Flea Market and just
this last weekend...I traveled about two hours away to attend Flair on the Farm in Salinas, CA.
Two shows done in back to back weekends...can a girl get a nap now??

NOPE.

Here is a peek at the FABULOUS booth my friend, Bobbie Ashley of Rockin' A Furniture and I set up.

I think we need our own store???

Bobbie's chairs she redid...so beautiful!

My shabby chic bar stools and little side table...perfect for a game room!

Funky little turquoise lamp...with a little burlap ruffle...

I love this little turquoise piano bench...it has a pop of red painted on the inside for fun!

This set is so fun...perfect whether it matches your decor or not!

I had a great time "setting up shop" with Bobbie...she has such talent and is AMAZING!  I also enjoyed a great visit while we traveled there and back with a dear friend and fellow Junker.  All in all...a great day!

I have a whole month now to get junkin' and reload for Glorious Junk Days in
Old Town Clovis, CA on Sunday, May 26th!
See you there!!

Dairy Wife Wednesday...Painting, Sewing and Shooting Pics...Oh My!

It has been a BUSY few weeks around here.  Our Fancy Flea Market was last Friday and Saturday...and this Saturday I am headed to Salinas, CA (a couple hours away) for another show.
I have never done back to back shows...it is a bit exhausting!

As I was frantically finishing up furniture, cleaning display pieces and loading furniture last week...
I noticed this sweet helper in the background.  She is "quality control" here at The Vintage Barn!

 photo 758008b6-9a9f-4ac2-b7bb-4947e183ef4d_zps05d1bc85.jpg

Cows are SO curious!  This is in our driveway...I TOLD you I lived smack dab in the middle of the dairy!

That is my sweet little nightstand...my friend bought if for her daughter's room.
They will be moving soon...and I told her I wanted to see a picture of it in her room!

I am NOT a professional photographer...not EVEN close!
BUT, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this picture!!!
 photo 0576a8f6-b237-436e-b6ee-754656665527_zps66145ec6.jpg
I snapped this via my door mirror...and caught Natalie with a cute smile.  Warms my heart!
We were driving around the dairy the other day..just "checking on things" as Nat calls it.  I grabbed
my camera...and was practicing with it.

I know Natalie is not in her car seat...but, don't worry...we were in the "feed lane"  NOT the "fast lane!"

I hope you are having a wonderful week!!!

I added a hemmed burlap ruffle on each end...a bit of shabby touch!
Just sewed it right on the edge...instant cute table runner.

This is my dad, Ron...he is the master body shop dude.  He has rebuilt cars and painted them...restoring hem to beautiful cars as long as I can remember.  Make no mistake... he is also a junker...he can find a "find" anywhere.  My dad just told me about his fabulous estate sale find today...amazing find!

My parents will be married 40 YEARS this July...THAT, my friends is an accomplishment!
They have built a successful towing and body shop business, raised myself and my sister...

My mom painted this chair with a mix of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint...and covered it in a beautiful fabric.
(That is my dad's boat in the background.)  Oh, we have a story about the FIRST time he took us all out in after he finished it.  We all teased him that we were going to SINK!!!  We lived...

This sweet farmhouse pedestal set was purchase by a sweet, young girl.  This young lady is in law school and is waiting to move into her first home!  She said it was just what she was looking for...
 I LOVE stories like that!

We had such a WONDERFUL day...full of fun, family and friends - new and old!  My mom, dad, sister and I will DEFINITELY be doing this again in the fall for sure!  We are thinking about an October date...I will keep you posted for sure!
I hope you all have a great week...I am off to prepare for Flair on the Farm in Salinas this Saturday!

This Ol' House Thursday...Loading My Rig For Our FANCY FLEA MARKET!!!

I have been buried in the garage the last couple of days putting finishing touches
on all of my furniture finds.

This morning, my girls and I got to go to our zoo with Natalie's preschool class...so FUN!
Both girls were wiped out and are taking great naps...so, I set out and started loading my stuff!!
Our Flea Market starts TOMORROW!!!

There is ALWAYS time for one last project, right?
I think I may go cuckoo.

Oh, and my husband's birthday is today.
Can I squeeze anything else on my plate?

Our oldest wanted to make daddy a "Jack Sparrow" cake...she is really into the Pirates now.
(Notice I didn't show you a fabulous photo of our cake...
yeah, she was thrilled with blue frosting and a pirate flag...that was it!)
Oh, and birthday dinner with the in laws...fun!

Come back tomorrow for pictures of my display...and all the goods my mom and sis have!!

Not sure I will sleep tonight!

These colors are SO cute for spring...lovely!

Remember, this black and white one below is the GIVEAWAY one you have the chance to win!

Ok, so who is this Shabby Cowgirl??
(I know only a FEW of you are wondering...she has over 17,000 Facebook Fans.  WOW!)

I met Barbara, AKA "Shabby Cowgirl" about four years ago.  She was working in a cute little boutique in Clovis, CA...and I had just started selling my vintage furniture in this store.  She was just so sweet to me and I could tell she was a genuinely lovely person...inside and out.

Fast forward four years...and Barbara and I have remained friends and have shared a similar story.

As I said, I met Barbara when she was working in a little boutique.  She told me that not too long after that...she was no longer working there.  I shared my story with her of a home school teaching job I though I HAD to have...and when I was not rehired I bawled like a baby...for about an hour.
Then I picked myself up and followed my dream.
Same business plan Shabby Cowgirl has!!!
(I knew I liked her!)
I asked Barbara to tell me a little more about what led her to where she is today...

We lived in Bakersfield out on farmland and I had a small commercial embroidery business about 12 years ago. that was when the Shabby Cowgirl vision started but without much direction or knowledge of how to make it a real business. WE moved here in 2008 after the land we lived on was being sold, I had to get rid of my horses and we had no place to go but a chance trip through Clovis, CA and the knowledge that the schools and sports were amazing prompted me to take a chance. We packed up everything in a moving van and drove up without a home or knowing a person here. It was the biggest risk I have ever taken but we found a home after 3 weeks and have found a great town to call home.
After the job at the shop (where I met Julie) ended, I was unable to find anyone to hire me in my previous paralegal profession, too many years had passed and although nobody said it, my age was a factor, I knew that. Times were very tough and all I had was a bunch of fabric, baskets of yarn, a big dream and a little Facebook page. I think there were about 64 people on my page at that time. I just started making things and posting them and made some great connections. The big change came when I made contact with Melissa from The Bake Shoppe and Cafe in Cypress Texas because somehow I saw that she made giant ding dongs and I commented on them. She looked at my aprons and asked to carry a few in her shop. As luck would have it, she threw those aprons over some clothing by her friends The Junk Gypsies and they did an amazing photo shoot. The resulting photo propelled my page into a whole new arena and my business changed within minutes. I remember watching the numbers on my page go up by hundreds before my eyes and jumping up and down. My kids thought something was wrong and came running as I said "something is happening here and it's really good".
I just kept going with what I was doing and have worked hard every single day to keep moving in the direction I always knew Shabby Cowgirl could go.
Aprons and bags are the items that started it all, however I have always intended for there to be housewares and a clothing line and I have been working on the designing of sundresses, skirts and tops. I am working really hard to learn how to manage the growth and build the business so that it keeps the original intention and look that inspired me so many years ago. People ask me all the time how to grow their business and my biggest advice is to find something that you are in love with, something that is your passion . Work hard and then work harder. STay true to your own work and don't worry about what anyone else is doing. Infuse your business with positivity and joy because you will be spending a great deal of your time working or thinking about it and it should be about doing what you love.
I am just a girl doing what she loves at her kitchen table, sewing barefoot and happy with the music turned up. But I do it 7 days a week and 10 hours a day knowing that every single day I am blessed to see my big dreams become my job.
I have 5 children. My oldest daughter who is married with two adorable and energetic little boys is a college professor in Bakersfield, My son who just got married is a jr High math teacher in Oakland, my younger daughter and fiance just bought the Lincoln Market and Deli in San Luis Obispo and they have a 4 month old sweet boy as well. Hank is 15 and at Clovis High and Jack is 12 and goes to the Jr. High here. I am a busy sports mom which I love.
My items are carried locally at 3 Oaks Studio in Old Town Clovis and at Embellish and Restore in Visalia exclusively.

I have ALWAYS enjoyed Barbara's cheerful spirit, encouraging words when I ask her advice...and just her friendship.  Our business philosophies are the same...do what you love, work hard and then work harder...and don't worry about what everyone else is doing!!

Okay...go enter the GIVEAWAY now!!!

Love & Junk~
Julie
