Furniture Friday....Patio Pallet Potting Bench

The girls and I worked outside the last few days...sprucing up the porch and patio.  We dolled up a potting table my dad built out of reclaimed pallets...cute!

I sprayed a little chalkboard paint on those clay pots on the bottom...I am addicted to chalkboard paint!

I LOVE rosemary...I use it in a bunch of recipes.  Clean a sprig or two and put it into your sauce pan when you brown butter....dip baguettes in the butter.  Oh my goodness...delicious!

This Ol' House Thursday...Spring Green & White Mantle

Just a quick little mantle update today...spring green and white!  I am SO ready for Spring!

I used what I had...old topiaries, moss balls, white pitchers...

That is an old picture frame...and I painted over the picture of a fisherman with chalkboard paint.  ($1!)

My Granny's old candy dish...I used to get in a lot of trouble sneaking in this!
Granny gave it to me one year for my birthday...she has been gone almost two years now.

I just dug through my kitchen cupboards for all those pitchers...use what you have and be creative!

Love my little moss ball on my candlestick...

Thankful He has RISEN!!!

I hope you are having a great week...I am off to Natalie's preschool today...St. Patrick's party and her day to "share."  Her teacher's gave her today because it was the "N" share day...oh, "N"atalie was SO excited about that!  Nail polish, night lights, noodles, nickels....her bag was full!

Waiting for them to cool is overrated!   photo e01c9a67-dc14-49fc-94dc-9f3e758b9202_zps3b9f28b8.jpg
To quote our 4 year old..."Oh my MG!" (Her version of OMG!)
Nutella-Stuffed Browned Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies with Sea Salt recipe
2¼ cup all-purpose flour
1¼ teaspoons baking soda
¼ teaspoon of salt
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter
1¼ cup packed dark brown sugar
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon plain greek yogurt (I used sour cream)
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
½  cup milk chocolate chips (I used all semi sweet...so 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips)
1 jar of Nutella, chilled in refrigerator
Coarse sea salt for sprinkling (You know I love my sea salt!)
  1. In a large bowl mix flour, baking soda, and salt until combined. In a saucepan over medium heat, brown butter and set aside to cool.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Mix in egg, yolk, vanilla, and yogurt until incorporated. Gradually add the dry ingredients until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  3. Place cookie dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours (or longer) to let the flavors meld together.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Roll 1½ tablespoons of dough and sort of flatten the dough ball out and make a bowl like shape.  Place 1 teaspoon of chilled Nutella in the middle then place another flat circle of cookie dough on top. Crimp edges to seal.
  5. Sprinkle with sea salt.
  6. Place dough balls on cookie sheet, 2 inches apart and bake 9-11 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
  7. Let cookies cool on cookie sheet for a minute or two and then move to wire racks to cool completely.
Have a great week...I m off to walk and do pilates after eating these.  Oh well!

Transformation Tuesday...Sweet Little Butter Buffet

I LOVE a good vintage find...I usually fix them and part with them.

Not this one...she's mine!

 photo 766c910f-083f-4521-8cf5-51200eed84b4_zps39813541.jpg

Here is how she looked when we got her home.
(I say we...my husband just LOVES hauling furniture for me, wink wink.)

I always clean each piece first by wiping out all drawers, wiping the furniture down with TSP or vinegar and remove all hardware.   I couldn't wait to get started...and had just
the idea for a color.

You can read my recipe for home made chalk-like paint here.  The color I used here was an 8 oz sample of
Martha Stewart's Cornbread and I mixed in a drop or two of a milky white to soften it.

 photo 9b699400-8272-41ec-b709-75f31bc7ac32_zps45d34f09.jpg

I applied two light coats of my paint...

 photo 7d9aaa00-ec29-4d84-9924-ca4e8cc8c8ba_zps933f8374.jpg

You can see where I lightly distressed in real-worn areas.

 photo 27e9aa47-cefa-4a15-8b87-20eb8d393a38_zps9c8f7e67.jpg

The hardware is all original...and I kind of thought of painting the hardware white.  But, I love original hardware...and am leaving them as-is for now.

Love the worn look...

I think this is the perfect butter-y color for our dairy farmhouse!

 photo c4d43d82-bca3-4b4b-9c04-2fe2ad3900f2_zpsbaf9c39a.jpg

I found that large frame at a yard sale a few weeks ago...and painted whit chalkboard paint (I know...you are shocked, right?) right over the pictures.  I had this in the garage and couldn't decide whether or not I was going to sell it.  Well, duh...it is perfect for this buffet!

Tackle something you have on our "to do" list...make your house your home one project at a time!

Motivate Me Monday...My Blake Poster

This is my new favorite thing.

(This lovely photo is from Dear Lillie.)

This beautiful chalkboard creation is from one of my favorite bloggers and shop owners,
Jennifer Holmes of Dear Lillie.

You can shop Dear Lillie and download this chalkboard print HERE.

I downloaded this print and enlarged it at Staples (Jennifer gives the details on how to do this on her site when you download the print.  Just click on the Dear Lillie link above.)

I switched out a print I had in this large 24x36 poster frame. There is a great tutorial on building the wood frame for this poster on the Dear Lillie site...I will get to that one day.  For now, I painted a black frame I had with some of my home made chalk paint in a creamy white and lightly distressed it.

 photo ccfc9fd8-ef3b-4a58-a2d5-6b28923e8721_zps97fef284.jpg

The white looks great against the brick and goes well with the chalkboard...love this!
I gave it a quick coat of a spray clear coat.

There is a story behind this chalkboard poster.

A story you must read.

A video tribute to a young boy you must watch.

Watch this video about this sweet boy Blake.

Get some kleenex...

I love my new chalkboard download from Dear Lillie.  What I love even more about it is that it has a story behind it, a beautiful story of a families' love one another and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

I hope you all have a fabulous week!

Furniture Friday....You Are My Sunshine Sneak Peak

Our little one is taking an extra long afternoon nap...so, our 4 year old and I got to work!

We mixed up our own home made chalk-like paint ...in a beautiful yellow.  My new FAVORITE!

 photo 3b50d591-7900-4bea-912d-5920a9ca3118_zpsc74e1794.jpg

I love the pop of yellow in our kitchen...
(Check out that website on the chalkboard....COOL stuff!)

 photo 64f48fad-08a6-497a-bacf-d09ac6191ecb_zpse19d4f3e.jpg

I love the look of the distressed yellow against the brick.  Waiting for my husband to help me hang this chalkboard...believe it or not...she is pretty heavy!

 photo 5e82f670-1eec-432d-bfbe-1162c8ff8953_zpsa4e16ae8.jpg

Lovin' that distressed look...thanks to my little assistant, Natalie!

 photo 381e4d30-7554-4193-a137-a4be709da5dc_zpsad8433d9.jpg

We added a dot of white...and lightened up the color for these candlesticks.
(They were black...told ya I am over the black!)

 photo 9b699400-8272-41ec-b709-75f31bc7ac32_zps45d34f09.jpg

Sneak peek on this...I am in LOVE with this sweet little buffet.  I bought her to fix up and sell...
but, sorry folks...she is mine!
Can't bring myself to part with her...and I am already clearing a space for her while the paint dries!!
Check back for the finished product with this one...

I hope you are all having a great Friday...we are!

Now, we are off to make crab cakes for dinner...oh, and a glass of Pinot Grigio (or two)
 to go with them!
